This year 2016, marks the 25th Anniversary of the Caribbean Water and Wastewater Association. For an Association largely run on volunteerism, this is certainly a milestone. Our Conference and Exhibition this year will be held in Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago, the business and entertainment hub of the Caribbean and considered to be the birthplace of the CWWA.
As the region suffers drought conditions caused by the El Nino phenomenon, businesses, schools, health facilities, hotels and the agriculture sector, among others are all impacted by water shortages. At the same time, the spread of the Zika virus, Chikingunya, and the long standing Dengue virus has raised the alarm level. These are exacerbated by changing climate patterns and the lack of attention to proper solid waste disposal in our countries. It has been shown that the vectors breed in conditions where there is poor waste disposal.
The CWWA Conference and Exhibition present an opportunity like no other to bring together, in one place and in one forum, high level speakers, policy makers, development partners, experts, practitioners, academia and the corporate sector to address the challenges facing the Caribbean using a multi-sectoral approach. No one issue is separate from the other; these are all inter-connected and our solutions must be derived from a holistic approach. With this in mind, our theme was chosen: Water and Waste Resources: Key Drivers of Sustainable Development in the Caribbean.
The Conference and Exhibition which attract over 400 participants regionally and internationally is the premier event of its kind in the Caribbean and will showcase, new technologies, products and services. Participants also have an opportunity to attend technical presentations, be exposed to new research and studies and listen to eminent panelists speak on subjects of interest. We also have in store, technical and touristic tours and cultural events which lend a good balance to the event.
We invite you to join us in Trinidad & Tobago, the dynamic southern Caribbean neighbor, between the 24th and 28th October, 2016. We can assure you of a most memorable experience.
We look forward to seeing you!
